Find a plumber for jobs like:

• Leaking or dripping taps
• Toilets that leak, run continuously or will not flush
• Visible leaks from pipework, joints or valves
• Problems with stop taps and isolation valves
• Low water pressure where an internal fault is suspected
• Replacing worn plumbing fittings

What to include in your request

Describe the source of the water if you can see it, how quickly it is escaping and whether turning off a local valve or the main stop tap stops it. Mention staining, dampness, reduced pressure or damage in the room below.

Do not open walls or remove fittings simply to improve the description. A plumber can decide what investigation is appropriate after discussing the symptoms.

A tap keeps dripping

Say which tap is affected and whether it drips from the spout or leaks around the base. Mention whether it happens when the tap is turned off or only when it is running.

A toilet keeps running

Explain whether water keeps flowing into the bowl after flushing, whether the cistern refills repeatedly and whether there is any water on the floor. The cistern is the tank that holds water for the flush.

Water pressure has dropped

Say whether it affects one tap, the hot water, the cold water or the whole home. If neighbours have the same problem, check your water company’s service updates before arranging an internal repair.
